The Ter was a 76 metre long steam freighter built in September 1880 in the shipyards of Pearse in Stockton (England). It came from Liverpool and was carrying sardines from Corucubión to Muros, bound for A Pobra do Caramiñal and Vigo. At eight o’clock in the morning in the midst of a thick fog, Ter ran aground on the shallows of Os Meixidos, although some sources cite the shallows of Corrubedo. Its iron hull could not bear the impact. The crew was saved in three boats with which they reached the port of Muros.
